Enough with that: six reasons to switch from your default email app, as shown by myMail

Both Android and iOS have default email clients, and, admittedly, they are okay — for somebody who does not use email very often. However, if you check your email on your phone or tablet even once a week, you will certainly not be satisfied with a pre-installed app that “can do everything, but on a basic level.” Using a default email client is like eating with a plastic fork from a paper plate: you could suffer through it, but why should you? Especially when you know there is convenient tableware out there (and user-friendly and powerful email apps).


Here is how you can significantly improve your life by swapping your default app for a user-friendly alternative, as exemplified by myMail — a versatile email client that supports all popular email services.

1.Push notifications

Push notifications are great, especially for an email client: being immediately notified about new email messages is very convenient. The problem is that push notifications offered by the default apps are really basic, and they often get delayed. For instance, it will take Apple Mail 15–30 minutes to display a notification about a new message in your Gmail inbox — or even longer, depending on the user settings (the app polls the server to check for new messages at a certain time interval).

2. Email filtering

All major email services offer filtering option: a user can set up filters to automatically sort messages into different folders based on some criteria (for example, messages from John Doe will go to the John Do folder). Default mobile clients show emails as they were filtered by a server. If a user needs to customize filters — which is a rather frequent case for power users — they won’t be able to do it in the app, and will have to do it elsewhere (for example, in a web interface).
But what if you want to do it right now, while you are in the field and away from a desktop? We operate on the assumption that the number of mobile-only users is growing, so all of the important actions can be performed in myMail.
For example, you can create new filters and even filter older messages in the Inbox folder.

3. User-friendly search

Anyone who’s ever tried to quickly find an important message in a default email app knows that it can be a challenging experience. For example, many pre-installed clients only offer local search, i.e. can only search through the emails downloaded to the device (which is far from being all messages, as the cache size has its limits). By contrast, our technologies allow myMail to search through all email messages in your account.

Default client can be rather limited in terms of search capabilities: Apple Mail only allows searching by sender/recipient, or by keyword in the subject or body of the message. On the other hand, myMail boasts a whole range of additional filters. For example, you can find all emails with the word “agreement” that contain attachments, are flagged, were received during a certain period, — and you can also limit your search to certain folders.

4. Quick attachment of photos and videos

Attaching photos (or any other content, for that matter) in Mail app is annoyingly inefficient. If iOS users need to send a photo, they typically have to first open the gallery and tap Send. Then the Mail App is opened automatically – and, for some reason, the photo is inserted in the body of an email. If you decide to write a message first and then add an attachment, it may take more a few minutes, especially if you’re doing it for the first time.

In myMail, the process is much simpler. Firstly, the paperclip icon is clearly visible so you don’t have to go looking for it. Secondly, we have implemented a super-quick way of attaching photos and videos. You can attach photos in bulk, instead of doing it one by one. Moreover, when you tap the paperclip, you see a preview of the most recent photos.

5. Security

Unlocking a phone usually provides access to the content of the default email client installed on the device. Additional security features can come in handy not only in a case of emergency (such as losing a mobile device), but at home too. Parents often give their phone to their kids to play with in restaurants.
In myMail, you can enable fingerprint access (in iPhone 5S and higher) or set a PIN code to the app. This way, the adults will be sure that the child won’t access their business correspondence, won’t delete an important email and won’t send gobbledygook to business partners.

6. Advanced capabilities

Focusing on email and its capabilities, we try to satisfy even uncommon user requests. For example, in myMail, you can send an email to yourself in two taps. We do it often ourselves — we send a photo taken with a smartphone which we plan on editing, or open a website we liked and in two taps send a page directly from the browser to get back to it later.
According to our stats, many of our users do it too — 15% of people send emails to themselves at least once a month (and that’s before we introduced this as a special option). We have received lots of positive feedback regarding this seemingly simple feature.
